Fruit & vegetables are the leading products in food waste. Due to being perishable in such a short amount of time, fruits and veggies are the first to go to the dump.
Packaging waste is not getting recycled.
In Colorado alone, only 12% of waste is actually getting recycled. On average, each Colorado resident throws away nearly eight pounds of trash per day.
Seasonal Foods
Chances are, grocery store greens are coming from South America. Stores aim to buy from producers that can supply year-round, so when it comes to chain stores, "in season" items aren't really stocked anymore.
